Hair
Style: Neat and secured up and back (e.g. ponytail or bun).
Face: Keep hair completely clear of the eyes.
Pro-Tip: Pin back long bangs! Stage lights are bright and will create dark shadows over the face if hair hangs down.
For this recital, we do not require a bun, but it is a great option!
💄 Makeup (Optional)
For younger dancers, makeup is 100% optional! We use it because bright stage lights can make faces look "washed out" or pale from a distance.
📝 What to Use (Natural Look)
If you choose to apply makeup, focus on these four basics to help features pop:
Mascara
Blush
Eyeliner: Soft kohl or gel pencil = no drying time.
Long-wear Liquid Matte Lipstick
Setting Spray: A quick mist to lock everything in and prevent smudging.
Why Liquid Matte Lipstick?
While many of us love a Lip Stain for its "set and forget" convenience and softer look, it can sometimes "wash out" under our professional stage lights.
We recommend Liquid Matte products (like Maybelline SuperStay or NYX Lip Lingerie) because they offer the best of both worlds:
Visibility: They provide a solid pop of color so your dancer’s smile is visible from the back of the theater.
Smudge-Proof: It stays on their lips, not their cheeks, hands, or teeth.
Costume Safety: Like a stain, they dry completely and won't rub off on costumes or other dancers.
The Bottom Line: If your dancer is very young or sensitive to heavy makeup, a lip stain works! But for the best "pro" look, a Liquid Matte is our top choice.
How: Apply to dry lips and let dry for 60 seconds. Do not add gloss!
